There are many service out there who are providing likes for your Facebook Fan Page and there are still many people who believe in those and fall into that trap. Anyway… What I tell to my friends and clients that they should focus on quality not on quantity.

In some cases quantity can help but I highly recommend to focus more on the quality of your followers since they are the one who are going to engage with your posts and updates.

There are some benefits to having more likes and followers. For example, people tend to follow accounts that have large followings simply because they want to be a part of the crowd. By this logic, you could gain new, real followers just because your numbers are impressive.

I created this article to show you how you can generate more Facebook followers without spending a dime.

1. Facebook pop-up plugin

This plugin is very simple to install and it gives you the opportunity to have a pop-up on your WordPress website. Once the visitor come to your site (from Google organic search for example) they will see this pop-up after a X seconds. This is not too aggressive and they can close with a simple click if they don’t want to follow. If you have traffic from search engines or from other sources I highly recommend to give it a try. It’s free and it can work for you as well.

2. Hellobar or Smartbar

Another very cool technique that you can use is implementing a header bar on your website. It’s super easy to setup and you can start collecting new Facebook Fan Page Likes in no time. With Hellobar you can A/B test your bar’s color and text.

3. Facebook groups

Use your Facebook Search bar and start searching for relevant Facebook groups. Let’s say that you are blogging about healthy eating stuff.

It takes a couple of days for the admins to accept your membership but once you are in the group you are able to share your content and your Facebook Page with the group members. If the group is relevant to your niche and you have options on your page (Hellobar, pop-up etc.) you will experience some good results after promoting your content in these groups.

4. Twitter auto DM

This is a very good technique. It’s very simple and it’s automated which is more fun. Head over to crowdfire.com and create an account (login with your Twitter account). Once you are in, follow these very simple steps.

You are all set! So whenever someone follow you on Twitter they will see this auto DM message immediately and you give them the opportunity to follow you on Facebook.

This comes really handy when you grow your Twitter account.

5. Posting regular content

This is common sense, but many people (especially small businesses) don’t post regular content on their Facebook feed. This is bad! If you post 2-3 updates on your Facebook Fan Page in different time zones (use Facebook insights to get more information) you will realise that people will be more engaged that will results in sales or email opt-ins.

They will share, like and comment on your updates which can generate additional likes for your fan page by their friends.

6. Email signature

I use Gmail and I use it a lot. I send out at least 15-30 emails per day and I bet you do at least this amount. But I am sure that you don’t use a Call-to-action in your email signature! Well, let’s change this now!

7. Sidebar Facebook like box

There are quite a few plugins for this but I like the original Facebook like box plugin.

Just simply go to https://developers.facebook.com add your Facebook Page link and get the code.

Once you grab that piece of code go and login to your WordPress site and go to your widgets and add a text widget including your code. Very simple right?

8. Thank you page

Another great way to get more Facebook likes for free is to add a Facebook like box to your thank you pages.

What is a thank you page?

It’s a simple page that show up after your visitor opted-in or purchased your product, service. It’s a proven study that people who already gave their email address and bought something from you are willing to do more, example: Like your Facebook page. They are in the funnel and you want to give them more while they are there.

Since I don't use Facebook for my blog (yet) I have Twitter there, but you got the point.

Once you have your thank you page setup you just have to add a simple Facebook Developers code to it and you are good to go!

9. Invite your friends

Wow, really? Well I know it’s simple but believe me or not when I do training, people are like hmmm I have never done this omg. So don’t forget this.

Here is how you do it:

10. Cross promote your Facebook Page

If you are using Twitter, Pinterest, LinkedIn or other social media platform for promoting your blog, product or service you might want to promote your Facebook page there.

For instance you can tweet two-three times per week “Follow us on Facebook and be a part of something cool” alright, this was pretty simple but you have to use something catchy. Use hashtags, good call to action text and image.

If they are already following and like you on Twitter they are going to follow you on Facebook as well and this is true for other social media sites.
